One Life Educational Mission

One Life Educational Mission
Mission Statement:
One Life Missions provides scholarships to inner city children who show desire for a better education. The desire for a quality education is a critical element in the ultimate success of an individual. Our goal is to empower young people, with the desire, but not the means, with access to a quality education in private or parochial Christian schools. One Life exists to provide the bridge from a dream to hope and reality.
While desire and access to education are critical, mentoring is a necessity. Many of the potential One Life Missions students do not have a father figure in the home. A male role model is essential to both girls and boys as they navigate the challenges of youth in inner city culture. Without role models and mentors, fatherless inner city children are generally destined to become statistics. As but one example, a unique young man named Jonathan decided to take responsibility for his life, and through its collaboration with Infinity New York Church in the Bronx, One Life was there to assist.
Collaborative Approach:
One Life seeks to build collaborative partnerships with churches and Christian schools. In the case of churches, it is through the church that One Life will primarily identify its candidates for scholarship. For example, One Life was introduced to Jonathan Caceres by Pastor Dimas Salaberrios who planted Infinity New York Church with his wife Tiffany in 2007. The church was planted in the Bronx River Housing Project, and services are held at the Bronx River Community Center. It ministers to the poorest congressional district in the United States. As for schools, One Life seeks schools which can BOTH (a) understand and work with inner city young people who may need assistance acclimating and transitioning from an inner city public school environment to the more competitive academic private school environment AND (b) appropriately challenge the young person to optimum scholastic achievement and personal growth. One Life is currently negotiating with several private Christian schools in the greater New York area to expand its partnerships.
In addition to the “right” school partners, it is critical to pair the student with an adult mentor who will commit to: (a) relationship with the young person including regular interaction and face to face meeting time, (b) providing age appropriate guidance as to navigating the challenging issues facing young people in general but particularly young people in a fatherless environment, and (c) praying with and for and encouraging the young person in perseverance through these challenges.
If you feel Called to mentor a young person and have the willingness and capacity to enter into this commitment, please contact us at Inquiries@olmf.us.

Scripture:
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”
Malachi 4:5-6
